How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger (Point to Another Provider)

In this article, you are going to learn how to point a domain to a host by changing the domain’s nameservers. This way, you can move your site to another hosting provider while still keeping the old domain name.

Knowing how to point a domain to Hostinger is important if you’re using our server but bought the domain from somewhere else. Keep on reading as this tutorial will show you how to connect the name to our service.

Before starting this tutorial, take into account that DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate worldwide.

How to Point a Domain Name to Hostinger

Hostinger’s nameservers:

  • ns1.dns-parking.com
  • ns2.dns-parking.com

Pointing a Domain to a Host – How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger

Let’s say you have just moved your site to another hosting provider. However, your domain name stayed with the old hosting company, and it does not direct visitors to your website.

This problem happens because your domain is not connected to the new web host. You have several options on how to solve this issue, but in practice, we only recommend using one method.

You can transfer the domain to the new hosting provider. However, domain transfer usually includes additional charges as the domain will be renewed for another year.

The second option is to update the domain’s DNS A record with your new IP address. Nevertheless, since A records are designed to point to static IP addresses, it’s advisable not to use this method. If the IP changes, your website will stop working until you update the record.

The last method is changing the domain’s nameservers. This is the most recommended option as you can transfer your domain’s DNS control to the new hosting provider without changing your registrar.

How to Point a Domain to a New Host?

Taking all considerations into account, we are going to show you how to change the domain’s nameservers. Note that we will be using Hostinger as an example, but you can use these steps as an example to point your domain to any web host.

1. Get the New Nameserver Values

First things first, find a list of nameservers from your new hosting provider. The information is usually provided on the company’s documentation page or in the post-purchase email. – How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger

If you still can’t find the info, you should contact your hosting provider.

At Hostinger, you can find all DNS-related information in Hosting -> Accounts -> Details.

Searching for account details in hPanel

The list of nameservers often look like this:

ns1.dns-parking.com
ns2.dns-parking.com

Web hosts usually provide two or more nameservers. Take note of all these addresses because you’ll need to enter them into your domain registrar’s control panel.

2. Apply the New Nameservers Values

The next step of pointing a domain name to a new host is to replace the domain’s old nameservers. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Login to your domain name registrar. Remember, this is the place where you bought your domain.
  2. Look for the option to set your domain’s nameservers. Every registrar has a different way of doing this. However, in general, you can find the appropriate settings on the menu called Domain Management, or Domain Overview, or something along those lines.
  3. In hPanel, go to Domains -> [your domain name] -> DNS. Select the Use my own nameservers option.

You should see several fields, such as Nameserver 1 (primary nameserver), Nameserver 2 (secondary nameserver), that will most likely be filled with Hostinger’s default nameservers.
  4. Enter the nameservers into the appropriate fields. For example, a nameserver that begins with ns1 should be put into the Nameserver 1 field, if it starts with ns2 to Nameserver 2, and so on.
NOTE: If you see the Create child nameservers field, you can ignore it.

Keep these tips in mind should there be any difference between the number of nameservers and the number of available fields:

  • If your hosting provider only gives you two nameservers, but your registrar provides you with four or more fields, enter the first two, leaving the other ones empty.
  • If your hosting provider gives you three nameservers, but your registrar only allows you to enter two, use the first two nameservers.

Try to look for the registrar’s Help or FAQ page if you still cannot find the menu to set your nameservers. Alternatively, you can ask Customer Support to add the new nameservers for you.

3. Wait for DNS Propagation

Once the nameservers are set, you need to wait for the changes to take effect. This period is referred to as worldwide DNS propagation.

The process typically takes a few hours, but it can also last up to two days. You might want to flush your DNS cache to speed up the process.

Conclusion – How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger

After moving to another web hosting provider, you need to point your domain to a new host to make your site accessible. Luckily, you can easily do that by changing the domain’s nameservers. Simply get the details of your new nameservers, copy it to the domain’s DNS settings, and wait for the DNS to propagate.

There are two main ways to point a domain name to Hostinger:

  • Changing the nameservers at your domain name registrar. This method is recommended since your DNS zone will be automatically configured to match the hosting’s IP Address. Plus, it enables you to transfer the control of your domain settings to our hPanel, making management convenient.
  • Pointing the domain name via A record. This method requires you to change the IP address connected to the DNS records. That way, your domain control stays in the registrar. Unless you’re sure the IP address is going to be static, this procedure is not recommended.

This guide shows how to point a domain name if it’s NOT registered with Hostinger. For a general tutorial on pointing a domain name to another provider, check out this tutorial.

Changing Domain Nameservers (Recommended)

The process of changing nameservers on various registrars is quite similar. Here’s what you need to do to point your domain name to Hostinger:

  1. Find the nameservers for your Hostinger account. You can do this by accessing hPanel’s DNS Zone Editor and scrolling down to find NS (Nameservers). We use four nameservers to ensure stability and maximum connectivity. So if one nameserver failed, others would resolve the requests.
  2. All nameservers correspond to an IP address, which you can locate by scrolling up to the A (Host) section. While in most cases you only need the names, some registrars may require the IP as well.
How to find your IP address in hPanel's A Records.
  3. Log in to your domain registrar’s control panel. If you’ve forgotten the name of the registrar’s company, use whois lookup.
  4. Go to the DNS Zone Editor. Depending on the registrar, it can be named differently. The most common ones are DNS editor, Manage DNS Settings, Change Nameservers, DNS Details, etc.
  5. Delete all values from the nameserver fields (if any) and input Hostinger’s nameservers. Save changes.

Allow up to 24 hours for DNS to fully propagate worldwide.

Pointing a Domain Name via A Record

As mentioned earlier, it’s an alternative you can try if you wish to keep the control of your DNS zone at your domain’s registrar. It consists of two primary steps:

Step 1: Changing A Records

A Record maps a domain name to its appropriate IP address. Therefore, if you want to point your domain name to Hostinger, you can modify these records by replacing the old IP address with the one from Hostinger.

In most cases, you have to create two A records for your domain name: one with the www subdomain and one without.

For instance, if you have a domain named yourdomain.com and want to point it to 212.1.212.62 as its IP address, you need to create A Record entries that look like this:

Pointing cPanel's A Record to Hostinger

It’s also possible that your www subdomain is pointed via the CNAME (alias) record. In that case, you only have to change the A record for your root domain name.

Don’t worry if you see a slightly different view at your registrar. Just fill in the values that look similar to the ones shown above. Each field stands for: – How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger

  • Name/Host – the domain or the subdomain you want to point to. Some registrars use @ symbol instead of a name to represent the root domain.
  • TTL – short for Time to Live. It determines how long the server caches DNS-related information before refreshing it. The default value is usually 14400 seconds (4 hours).
  • Type – record type.
  • Record/Address – the target IP address.

Step 2: Changing MX Record for Email

MX record specifies mail servers that handle incoming emails. If you want to use Hostinger servers to receive emails sent to your domain, you need to change your domain’s MX record.

At Hostinger, the MX record can be found in DNS Zone Editor as well.

How to find the MX record in hPanel.
Pointing cPanel's MX Record to Hostinger

Take note of the mail server’s address. After that, open your domain’s MX record and replace the old mail server:

  • Name – your domain name.
  • Priority – if you have more than one server, this field determines the priority of each server. The lowest number represents the highest priority.
  • Type – record type.
  • Address/Points to – destination/address of the server responsible for receiving emails.

Conclusion – How to Change a Domain Nameserver In Hostinger

By finishing this tutorial, we have learned the two ways to point a domain name to Hostinger. The first is by changing the nameservers, and the second is by changing your registrar’s A Record.

We recommend the first option as it automatically sets your domain with our IP Address so you don’t have to go to another hassle if it changes one day.

So what do you think? Which method will you choose? Let us know in the comments below!

Important Terms You Should Know About Google Ads

In the last section of How to advertise on Google ads tutorial, you get to know about how to create your ad on Google Ads. In this section, we’ll explain you some of the most commonly used terms in Google Ads.
Type of campaigns on Google Ads
In general, there are three types of campaigns available in Google Ads.

• Google Search Ads

Google Search Ads refer to text ads that get shown on Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

• Google Display Ads

Google Display Ads are usually image-based and are displayed on web pages that contain relevant information about the chosen keywords.

• Google Video ads

Google Video Ads are of duration between 6 and 15 seconds and are shown in videos on YouTube.

What is Click-Through Rate?

The Click-Through-Rate refers to the number of clicks an ad gets against the number of views. A higher CTR means simply means better performing ad and matches perfectly to the searched queries.

What is Conversion Rate?

This rate refers to the number of form submissions against the total number of visits on the landing page. Similar to CTR, a high conversion rate means that the landing page is quite effective in attracting and engaging the visitors.

How Do Google Ads Work?

Though I have tried to explain everything in detail about Google Ads, this section will help you recap the things about the functioning of Google Ads. So, the first things first – Google Networks. There these networks refer to the advertisement locations where your ad will be place like SERP, Google Maps, and other partner sites.

There Are Primarily Two Google Networks:

  • Search Network
  • Display Network

If you’ve been using Gmail, YouTube, or other Google products, you might notice various ads appearing at regular intervals. Even if you’re browsing on a partner website you might see ads appearing under the Display Network. Let’s consider an example. I am interested in buying a LED TV so I started searching for the same on Google. In the search results, I come across ecommerce dealers that deal in LED TVs.

Google Search ads

When I scroll down, I see normal text-based ads from other product sellers.
After showing interest, I click on a particular ad that gets my attention. After clicking, the advertiser (amazon, for example) pays a few dollars to Google for my click in hopes that I will convert.
In a nutshell, it depends on the searched keywords and the audience that determine how an ad will be shown to a visitor.

Hope you are enjoying this Google ads tutorial 🙂

What is Google Ads Retargeting?

Remarketing (also known as retargeting) refers to the process of sending another marketing communication like ads, back to users who already exposed to previous ads but didn’t convert.
It can be said to an attempt to bring them back and give another chance of getting converted.
Google makes the use of a great remarketing software and custom audience options to do just that.

For the display network, advertisers can target audiences or keywords, showing their ads on sites that possible customers are browsing.
From now on, it works just like the search network: click on the ad and buy.

Where My Ad Will Be Shown? How Does Your Ad Rank On Google Ads?

On search results page, Google Ads appear in a particular order. Do you know why? Here is the answer.
There are several factors that determine the position and rank of your ad. The major ones are:

1. Bid Amount: The higher the bidding amount the better the ad rank. But only this aspect is isn’t enough.
2. Auction-Time Ad Quality: Quality score
3. Context of Search: location, device, time, etc. in regard to your ads. Is your ad the unmatched option, usually based on the context of each person and you’re presently offering?
4. Ad Extension Influencer: how much of an improvement do your ad extensions make? More = better. Higher CTRs simply mean bigger impacts.

What is Google Ad Quality Score?

In general, the quality score of a Google Ads is determined using three factors.

1. Probable Clickthrough Rate: What’s the average CTR for your domain? If you are higher than average, anticipate a better-quality score than most.

2. Ad Significance: How precise are your ads? Does the offer and call to action are logical for what you are saying? If your ads say, “visit the shop today,” but you only sell products online, your ad relevance will rank low.

3. Landing Page Experience: Does your landing page transmit the same information as your ads? Same offer? Same keyword? If not, your quality score is supposed to get low.

How To Perform Keywords Before Creating Ads In Google Ads?

From the above given information, it gets clear that the key to successful Google Ads is a careful selection of keywords. Always remember the selection of right keywords creates a big difference between a performing and non-performing ad.
And when it comes to finding the right keywords for your Google Ads campaign, the best possible option is to do keyword research. Here is how.
The most effective place to begin keyword research for your first campaign is right on Google Ads itself, using Google’s own keyword tool.
When you open the keyword planner, you can choose to enter the topics, phrases and even URLs to let Google generate ideas for you.

How To Create Landing Pages That Work?

Landing pages are basically the web pages where a user lands on clicking your Google Ads. They are of immense value as they have the power to convert a prospect into a customer.
This is why it is necessary to design a landing page carefully considering the user journey in mind.
A majority of new advertisers on Google Ads commit the mistake of using their homepage as the landing page because it holds similar content like calls to action and comprehensive information on the products or services being provided. But, in actual, this is considered a mistake.
Ideally, you should have a particular landing page for a particular set of keywords and content.
Some great tips on landing page creation:

  • The first and foremost thing to do is to ensure that your selected keywords and content remains similar both on the ad and the landing page. For example, if you’re taking about providing great digital marketing tips, make sure the page has the same. Otherwise, your all efforts won’t worth your time and efforts.
  • Do what you said in the ad. The purpose of this practice is to help the visitor get some value of the click he made. Your value proposition must be short and should describe the eventual benefits that customers can expect, not features.

How Can I Maintain My Google Ads Account Profitably?

When you take a look at the data presented in Google Ads, it is quite easy to get overwhelmed. This is because there are lots of metrics and data sets to analyze out of it from ad impressions to clicks, CTR, and conversions. Always remember that there are two aspects – cosmetic ones and functional ones. Instead of focusing on cosmetic ones, it is recommended to focus on functional ones that actually play a role.

Which Metrics You Should Check?

A majority of metrics are for cosmetic purpose only. Impressions make no sense if they are not converting. When it comes to analyze the metrics, there are generally two elements you need to concentrate on: Cost per acquisition/cost per conversion and lifetime value

What Is Cost Per Acquisition?

Cost per acquisition or conversion basically refers to the amount of money you spent on acquiring a customer. For example, if it cost you 20 clicks at $1.00 per click, that’s a $20 cost to acquire them. This metric is meant to tell you whether you’re in profit or not. If your customers only paid you $15 for a product or service, but you spent $15 to get them, you’re in loss.

What is Google Ads Lifetime Value?

Lifetime value means the total value that a customer spends with you over their association with your business. After obtaining a customer or persuading him to make a purchase, how much do they actually spend? How many times they came back and made a purchase again?
If a customer buys from you twice a year on average and each order is $200, that’s a $400 would be his yearly lifetime value.

Why Businesses Should Use Google Ads?

Google ads are the quickest way to show your business ads on Google to your targeted buyers and the other benefit of advertise on Google is its cost effectiveness. You will be charged only when your potential buyers will click on your Google ads results in SERP. But if you run ads on social media, you will be charged for every single impression you will get on your ads so Google ads is the better option when you need quick and targeted leads only.

Are Google Ads Free?

No, Google ads are not FREE because when you advertise on Google then you have to pay for every single click you get on your ads and this is why Google ad is also know as Pay Per Click or PPC. Signing up is free but you have to pay for clicks.

How Much Does it Cost to Do Google Ads?

The average cost-per-click (CPC) on Google Ads is $1 to $2 for the Google Search Network and less than $1 for the Google Display Network. For more details click here.

What Does CPC And CPM Mean in Google Ads?

CPC stands for cost per click and CPM mean cost per mile (Cost per 1000 impressions) in Google ads.

The above given Google Ads tutorial would be of some help to you in managing Google Ads from start till end and i hope you understand how to advertise on Google now.

WordPress Easy WP SMTP Plugin Vulnerability

Popular WordPress plugin Easy WP SMTP plugin, with over 500,000 active installations, just patched a vulnerability that allows an attacker to take control of a site. The flaw in the WordPress plugin allows hackers to reset the admin password and take complete control of a website.

Easy WP SMTP Vulnerability

The vulnerability is in a debug log file that is exposed because of a very basic error in how the plugin maintained a folder. Plugin folders on a server that contain files that are not meant to be seen by users usually contain a blank index.html file. The purpose of that file is to keep someone from navigating to that folder and discovering a list of files within that folder.

If someone can see the list of files, then they can potentially access those files, which is the case.

The folder where the debug log file exists does not have an index.html file. So on servers where directory index listings are not disabled by default a malicious hacker can gain access to that file.

What they first do is obtain an admin level user name from the WordPress site they are trying to hack using widely known methods.

Then they access the WordPress login page and send a password reset for the admin account.

Finally they access the debug log file and retrieve a record of the password reset link that the WordPress site sent. Once they retrieve that link they can enter it, reset the password and then enjoy full access to the WordPress site.ADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

Folder Problem Documented in Changelog

The Easy WP SMTP Vulnerability plugin maintains what is called a changelog that documents all the changes within each update. The changelog is meant to be read so that a user can understand what an update is changing.

Normally when a vulnerability is being patched the plugin developers will note that a vulnerability is being patched. This gives the WordPress publisher the information they need to make an informed decision as to whether or not to update a plugin or wait.

A changelog that informs a publisher that an update is plugging a vulnerability allows that publisher to make an informed decision to update the plugin in order to avoid getting hacked.

The Easy WP SMTP plugin changelog only says that they are inserting an index.html file in a folder to prevent anyone from browsing it. That should be warning enough that this is an important update, but only if the publisher understands that peeking into the folder is dangerous.

WordPress 5.6: The Good, the Meh and the Ugly

WordPress 5.6 has been released with dozens of improvements and new features. Code named Simone (honoring singer Nina Simone), WordPress 5.6 has been met with a positive response, possibly because it didn’t break anything.

The substance of what’s new in WordPress 5.6 can be described as mostly good, some meh and one issue that’s ugly.

The Good

Enable jQuery Migrate Plugin Updated

The last two updates were somewhat rocky due to millions of websites breaking or accidentally updating with a beta version of WordPress.

The biggest potential issue was with the jQuery Migrate deprecations and updates.

WordPress 5.6 managed to avoid the legacy jQuery plugin issues experienced with the WordPress 5.5 update in August 2020. That was the update that caused websites to stop functioning in myriad and unexpected ways.

The reason those issues were avoided this time around is because WordPress 5.6 updated the Enable jQuery Migrate plugin in order to avoid a repeat of websites crashing.

When the plugin is active and the publisher is logged in, the plugin will detect outdated jQuery and log it, presenting a display at the top of page to signal the problem.ADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

The plugin detects jQuery issues from page to page as the pages are served to the publisher as they browse the site.

There is an option to perform similar logging using pages served to users are browsing the site, but WordPress warns that this could create significant server load and recommends not turning it on.

There is a deprecation log page that shows the plugins responsible for the warnings. After updating a plugin the publisher can clear the old log and resume browsing again to see if the Enable jQuery Migrate plugin detect additional issues.

WordPress stated:

“With the above in mind, the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin was updated for the release of WordPress 5.6, this provides a temporary downgrade path to run legacy jQuery on a site when needed.

The reason this is considered a temporary solution, is that the older version of jQuery no longer receives security updates, and the legacy version will not be patched manually if anything should occur that warrants updates to it.”

The Meh

WordPress 5.6 is shipping with their first version of WordPress that is (somewhat) PHP 8 compatible, the newest version of PHP that was released in November. However, this compatibility is meant to be regarded as beta compatible.

Because the WordPress PHP 8 compatibility news manages to be both good and less than good news it ends up being… meh.

As noted in the official guidance of WordPress 5.6 and PHP 8 Compatibility:

“WordPress Core aims to be compatible with PHP 8.0 in the 5.6 release (currently scheduled for December 8, 2020).

…Significant effort has been put towards making WordPress 5.6 compatible with PHP 8 on its own, but it is very likely that there are still undiscovered issues remaining.”

Publishers should test first before upgrading their version of PHP because themes and plugins at this point in time will very likely not be ready for PHP 8.

That’s why WordPress’ announcement framed PHP 8 compatibility as one of the first steps, because of potential compatibility bugs and because themes and plugins may not be compatible yet.

According to WordPress:

“5.6 marks the first steps toward WordPress Core support for PHP 8.”

The Ugly

One of the new features in version 5.6 that the WordPress team are rightfully proud of also contains a potential downside to it that if fully exploited could lead to a full site takeover.

WP 5.6 introduces the REST API authentication with Application Passwords Feature

The App Passwords Feature allows third party apps to connect to your website and add functionality.

According to WordPress:

“Thanks to the API’s new Application Passwords authorization feature, third-party apps can connect to your site seamlessly and securely. This new REST API feature lets you see what apps are connecting to your site and control what they do. “

However, according to WordPress security plugin publisher Wordfence, a social engineering attack could be used against a site administrator to obtain administrator credentials.

Social engineering is a hacking method that relies on tricking into providing information or access.

For example, Phishing is a form of social engineering where an attacker may email a victim posing as their bank, requesting that they reset their login credentials.ADVERTISEMENThttps://35671dfc9417cb693ae8a0f530d026f7.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.htmlCONTINUE READING BELOW

A link in the email leads to a copycat site that resembles a bank website where the victim enters their user name and password which is then harvested to obtain access to their banking account.

Wordfence describes a social engineering attack where a criminal could create an app that impersonates a trusted App, leading the site publisher to issue a password and allow a secure connection to their website. Wordfence describes the complexity of this attack as “trivial.”

According to Wordfence:

“An attacker could trick a site owner into clicking a link requesting an application password, naming their malicious application whatever they wanted…

Since application passwords function with the permissions of the user that generated them, an attacker could use this to gain control of a website.”

Wordfence produced a video describing and demonstrating the potential for a social engineering attack compromising the new Application Passwords Feature:

Google on Penalizing Misinformation

A member of the SEO community expressed the opinion that misinformation in medical search results topics are as harmful and bad for users as spam content. And if that’s true, then why why doesn’t Google penalize misinformation sites with the vigor that Google penalizes sites for spam? Google’s Danny Sullivan offered an explanation.

Should Misleading Information Be Treated Like Spam?

Joe Hall (@joehall), a member of the search marketing community, framed the question of misinformation in the search results within the context of a bad user experience and compared it to spam.

One of the reasons why Google cracks down on spam is because it’s a poor user experience, so it’s not unreasonable to link misinformation with spam.

Joe Hall isn’t alone in linking misleading information with spam. Google does too.

Google Defines Misleading Content as Spam

Google’s own Webmaster Guidelines defines misleading information as spam because it harms the user experience.

This what Google says:ADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

“A rich result may be considered spam if it harms the user experience by highlighting falsified or misleading information. For example, a rich result promoting a travel package as an Event or displaying fabricated Reviews would be considered spam.”

If a user searches for “this” and is taken to a page of content about “that,” according to Google’s own guidelines, that’s considered spam.

Is Misleading Different From Misinformation?

Some may quibble that there’s a difference between the words misleading and misinformation.

But this is how the dictionary defines those words:

Merriam-Webster Definition of misleading:

“…to lead in a wrong direction or into a mistaken action or belief often by deliberate deceit… to lead astray : give a wrong impression…”

Merriam-Webster Definition of Misinformation:

“…incorrect or misleading information”

Regardless if you believe that there’s a gulf of difference between misleading and misinformation, the end result is the same, an unfulfilled user and a bad user experience.

Google’s Algorithm Designed to Fulfill Information Needs

Google’s documentation on their ranking updates states that the purpose of the changes is to fulfill users information needs. The reason they want to send users to sites that fulfill their information needs is because that’s a “great user experience.”ADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

Here’s what Google said about their algorithms:

“The goal of many of our ranking changes is to help searchers find sites that provide a great user experience and fulfill their information needs.”

If a site that provides quality information provides a great user experience then it’s not unreasonable to say that sites that provide misleading information provide a poor user experience.

The word “egregious” means shockingly bad, an appropriate word to describe a site that provides misleading information for sensitive medical related search queries.

So, if it’s true that misleading information provides a poor user experience then why isn’t Google tackling these sites in the same way they take down spam sites?

If misleading information is as bad or worse than spam, why doesn’t Google hand out the most severest penalties (like manual actions) to sites that are egregious offenders?

Joe Hall first tweeted:

“If you are found to spread misinformation about COVID19 vaccines… Then you shouldn’t be in Google’s index at all. It’s time that G puts it’s money where its mouth is in regards to content quality.”

Joe next tweeted about the seeming futility of the algorithm or concepts like E-A-T for dealing with misinformation and the difference between how Google treats spam and misinformation:

“Forget Core Quality Updates, YMYL, and EAT, just kick them out of the index. Sick of seeing Google put the hammer down for things like buying links… But consistently turns a blind eye to content that causes real harm to people.”

Google Responds to Issue of Misinformation in SERPs

Google’s Danny Sullivan insisted that Google is not turning a blind eye to misinformation. He affirmed Google’s commitment to showing useful information in the SERPs.https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?creatorScreenName=martinibuster&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-0&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1337170467497504769&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.searchenginejournal.com%2Fgoogle-on-penalizing-misinformation%2F390473%2F&siteScreenName=sejournal&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550pxhttps://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?creatorScreenName=martinibuster&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-1&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1337172045054967808&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.searchenginejournal.com%2Fgoogle-on-penalizing-misinformation%2F390473%2F&siteScreenName=sejournal&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550pxADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

Joe Hall asserted:

“Bottom line, protecting your user’s life/health should take a higher precedence than punishing link buyers.”

Danny responded:

“It already does. You are choosing to deliberately focus on the fact that we take manual action on *some* things in *addition to* automated protections to make it seem like our existing ranking systems are somehow not trying to show the best and most useful info we can.”

Google’s Danny Sullivan then followed up with:

“It seems like you equate manual action in the case of some spam attempts as somehow like we’re not working across all pages all the time to fight both spam and misinformation. We are.”

Joe Hall returned to ask why misleading sites aren’t penalized in a similar manner as spam is:

https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?creatorScreenName=martinibuster&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-2&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1337297486759809031&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.searchenginejournal.com%2Fgoogle-on-penalizing-misinformation%2F390473%2F&siteScreenName=sejournal&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550pxADVERTISEMENTCONTINUE READING BELOW

Danny explained in two tweets the challenge of manually reviewing millions of misleading sites and of ranking breaking news:

“There are millions of pages with misinformation out there. We can’t manually review all existing pages, somehow judge them & also review every new page that’s created for topics that are entirely new. The best way to deal with that is how we do, a focus on quality ranking…

Remember the whole 15% of queries are new thing. That’s a big deal. Some new story breaks, uncertain info flows, misinfo flows along with authority info that flows. Our systems have to deal with this within seconds. Seconds. Over thousands+ pages that quickly emerge…”

Next Danny asserted that automated systems do far more heavy lifting against spam than manual actions.

Danny tweeted:

“Yes, we will take manual actions in addition to the automated stuff, but that’s a tiny amount and also something where a manual approach can work, because it’s pretty clear to us what’s spam or not.”

Google and Misinformation

It’s uncertain whether Google’s algorithms are doing a good job surfacing high quality information in the search results.

But the question as to whether Google should elevate how it treats misinformation is a valid one. Particularly in YMYL queries in medical topics, blocking misinformation in those search results seems to be as important as blocking spam.

How Do We Increase Website Rankings In Google Search Results With Our Latest SEO Techniques?

With more and more businesses becoming online to sell their products & services, the competition is becoming harder for businesses. SEO has a primary task to do – to tell search engines that this particular website contains the most valuable content and information about the topic or keywords a user is looking for. Whether you’re selling toys or offering house painting services, SEO services are meant for every business that wants to offer products & services through its website locally, nationally, or internationally.

A look at our SEO process that has driven over a thousand leads and about a million of revenue to our clients. Dive in to know how our SEO marketers improve your online presence, lead generation or sales efforts, and revenue numbers.

Phase 1: Audit And Research

When we commence any SEO campaign, our committed SEO consultants in India begin by exploring info about your company, your website, your competitors, and your industry. We put on our detective hats and use data to put together a roadmap for your website’s SEO.

STEP 1: Website SEO Audit

It is the first thing we do when we enter any new SEO campaign in India. We perform a detailed website audit to discover the existing SEO errors on our client’s website. Not only it takes our SEO process to the next step, but also helps us in perfect website optimization. Our website audit checklist constitutes the following:

Website SEO Audit Checklist:

Domain Authority Check

To predict how well the website would rank on SERPs we analyze the website's domain authority. If it has a decent domain authority then it may get good results during SEO.

Website Speed Check

To know if the website's loading speed is more, less, or average. This is checked because the fast-loading websites can expect to rank higher in the SERPs and attract more visitors.

Robots .Txt File Check

To determine the number of pages of the website indexed in the Google Search Console and let search engine crawlers know how to cache and index your webpages.

Website Traffic Analysis Check

Traffic Analysis is done to determine the quality of traffic to and from the website. We use powerful automated tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, etc.

STEP 2: Backlink SEO Audit

By carrying-out a Backlink SEO audit for our client’s website,  we detect if their site is at risk of being penalized, and identify weak and valuable links. While it may seem time-consuming, a proper link audit requires a manual review.

Backlink SEO Audit Checklist

  • Spam Backlink Check: To check if the website has a link that comes from a not-so-trusted website.
  • Bad Backlink Check: To check if the website consists of links that do not follow Google guidelines and can incur a penalty in the future.
  • Toxic Backlink Removal: Toxic backlinks are the unnatural links that harm the search rankings of a website. We test out links toxicity as per the norms of Google’s Penguin update that focuses on penalizing the websites that have a bad backlinks profile.

STEP 3: Website UI & UX Audit

With a committed web development team, our SEO agency in India can also take care of your technical SEO aspects, helping you increase the user experience, usability, and search engine friendliness of websites. This is the first step we take to make your website a user-friendly website.

Website SEO UI & UX Checklist
